Glasgow marks Brexit day as EU cone appears on Duke of Wellington statue

Brexit day has arrived - Friday, January 31, the day the UK leaves the EU.

And it's fair to say our city has hardly been shy in voicing its opinion about the move, which comes on the back of the Brexit referendum way back on June 23, 2016.

And today, Glasgow has marked the occasion, by drawing extra attention to one of our city's most famous landmarks.

This morning, on Royal Exchange Square, the Duke of Wellington was spotted wearing a new hat outside the Gallery of Modern Art - the traditional bright orange traffic cone replaced by one decked in the blue and yellow stars of the EU flag.

Gordon Crawford shared a snap of the scene on Twitter earlier today, which has already received 400 retweets and over 1,000 likes.

And some early reactions include: "sets the mood for the city", "I'm so proud" and "Glasgow, you never fail".

The UK officially leaves the EU at 11.00pm GMT tonight.
