Glasgow 'March for Independence' demonstration to be held in city centre

A march calling for Scottish independence is to take place in Glasgow at the beginning of next year.

Organised by All Under One Banner, the 'March for Independence' demonstration will begin at Kelvingrove Park and finish at Glasgow Green.

It comes after the results of the general election, which saw an SNP victory in Scotland, with the party winning 48 of 59 available seats.

However, down south, the Conservatives swept the board, winning a huge majority, with 364 seats delivered to Prime Minister Boris Johnson's party in total.

A protest march - "Glasgow says ‘Not My Prime Minister’" - has already taken place in the city yesterday evening, with thousands coming out to demonstrate against the result of the election.

Boris Johnson has already doubled down on his decision not to allow a second independence referendum following a phone call with Nicola Sturgeon. The SNP leader and First Minister has stated a second independence vote is a "democratic right".

The Facebook event page shows 28k people are interested in attending the event, which takes place on Saturday, January 11 from 11.30am to 3.30pm.
