Glasgow man walking to London in aid of Help for Heroes and mental health awareness

Lewis McInnes is, quite simply, a legend.

The 25-year-old has spent the last fortnight making taking on an epic charity challenge in aid of armed forces charity Help for Heroes and Mental Health UK .

Lewis is trekking more than 400 miles, from his home in Glasgow to London, to do his bit for the very worthy causes .

Keen to join up with the British Army, the Chryston native was gutted recently when he was rejected due to mental health issues which surfaced when he was around 15.

But determined Lewis is bouncing back as he always does, in a bid to inspire others, push himself to the max, raise cash for charities which are close to his heart - and reduce stigma.

He said: "Mental health is something that I have battled and now I aim to help others as I know what it’s like to be alone.

"This walk is to raise the awareness and to send a message, I offer my help to anyone, don’t suffer in silence.

"Help for Heroes helps men and women who have served in the armed forces, which I recently applied to join, but I was sadly rejected due to mental health issues when I was 15.

"So in a way this is a test for myself and a way to give back to those that have served in the forces and, because of my mental health past which I overcame, I now wish to help a charity that offers support to those who suffer."

Lewis was aiming to raise £1,000 and wanted to complete the hike within two weeks, but has faced a few setbacks along the way including injuries, hospital visits and damaged sports kits.

But he's battled through the blood, sweat and tears to keep going like the champ that he is - and smashed his target by more than £2,000 too!
