Glasgow man 'unaware' of Covid-19 measures caught driving home after 11 days at girlfriend's house in Hull

A man from Glasgow has been caught by English police flouting the ongoing lockdown while driving home from Hull after spending 11 days at his girlfriend's parents house.

Eden Police in North Cumbria intercepted the driver on the A77 south of Carlisle this afternoon as he made the trip back to his native city.

The driver, who police say was "unaware of Covid-19 measures" despite being furloughed has been reported to authorities for breaching travel restrictions.

A tweet from Eden Police said: "Male stopped by the Proactive Team on A66 at Appleby on his way home to Glasgow after an 11 day stay at his girlfriends parents house in Hull.

"Apparently unaware of Co-vid measures yet he’s furloughed. Reported for breaching travel restrictions".

The incident comes in the wake of a host of similar events in the past few weeks involving drivers from the Glasgow area breaching lockdown restrictions to travel south of the border.

Earlier this month a Glasgow driver was caught on a 500-mile round trip to Stafford to collect a new car.
