Glasgow man behind bars after trying to kill partner in Provanmill

A man is behind bars after he admitted trying to kill his partner.

Gary Main attacked the woman at a house in Glasgow's Provanmill on July 19 this year.

Prosecutors said the 29-year-old initially struck her on the head and body with a glass bottle.

Main also pinned his partner to a bed and put his arm around her neck before attacking her with a piece of broken glass.

The woman eventually lost consciousness.

The attempted murder charge states this was to her severe injury, permanent disfigurement and impairment as well to the danger of her life.

Main's QC Donald Findlay pled guilty on his behalf during a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow today.

Main also admitted assaulting a police officer to the danger of his life by striking him with a knife.

No further details of the crimes were heard today.

Lady Stacey adjourned the case until the New Year when it is expected the court will be told more information about the attacks.

Main was remanded in custody meantime.
