Man in hospital after four-car horror crash on M8 in Glasgow

A man is in hospital today after a four-car crash on the M8 near Glasgow Airport.

The horror smash took place on the westbound carriageway at junction 29a near Bishopton, Renfrewshire, at around 3.50pm on Friday.

Emergency services raced to the scene.

One man was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

The nature of his injuries is unknown.

The section of motorway was closed for one hour bringing rush hour traffic to a standstill.

Motorists heading west were diverted onto the A8 Greenock Road.

Traffic Scotland's last update just after 5pm confirmed the road has reopened however traffic was still heavy in the area.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman told the Record: "We received a report of a four-vehicle crash on the M8, junction 29 west bound around 3.50pm on Friday, July 31.

"One man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment.

"The road was closed for around an hour to allow for the uplift of the vehicles involved."

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed their attendance.

This is the second major crash in this area in 24 hours.

On Thursday, we told how damage to an overhead bridge sparked traffic chaos at the same junction at around 5pm.

Huge tailbacks formed as motorists were brought to a standstill.

Police later revealed that an investigation is underway into the damaged bridge.

One possible explanation is that a lorry may have careered into the bridge.
