Glasgow locals warn they will flock to Edinburgh for Christmas shopping if put into tier four

Nicola Sturgeon will announce which Scottish council areas will be placed under tier four restrictions today.

Reports suggest Glasgow will be placed in a level four lockdown, meaning restaurants, cafes, pubs and non-essential shops will all be closed in the run up to the Christmas holidays.

Edinburgh, however, looks set to remain in tier three of restrictions with shops remaining open, and now defiant Glasgow locals are claiming they will travel through to the capital to finish off their Christmas shopping.

One brazen Scot responded to the news that tier four restrictions could be brought in, penning: "Let's all head to Edinburgh for Christmas shopping - absolute pointless."

Another local pointed out the issue, writing: "As we move into tier 4 tomorrow, what are thoughts on essential shopping not being possible in a level 4 (Glasgow)travelling to level 3 (Edinburgh).

"Please put the whole country into level 4 for short term @NicolaSturgeon @DrGregorSmith @jasonleitch otherwise people will abuse it!."

Another person warned that they would travel out of Glasgow, writing online: "See if Glasgow goes into tier 4 at the end of this week, if Edinburgh is in tier 3, am I not just gonna go there on the train for my Christmas shopping, by the way @ScotGovFM @snp."

"Looking for Xmas shopping tips in Edinburgh on behalf of the West of Scotland," added another. "Let’s face it, if the West goes tier 4, and the East stays tier 3, people will travel."
