Glasgow Lives: Kirsty, 31, Bothwell, freelance personal shopper and stylist and Carolyn, 27, Oaklands, Topshop personal shopper

We met working as personal shoppers for Topshop, before Kirsty left to work with another big company before setting up on her own.

I still work at Topshop and, outside of our day jobs, we work freelance together, styling and running home personal shopping services - shopping for and sorting client’s wardrobes.

We had a lot of encouragement to offer this service so we went for it, and it’s going well.

When you style for a person you become like a best friend. A lot of people have their own style and know what suits them, but working with a stylist gives them that wee push to go outside their comfort zone and have the confidence to try something new and get a second opinion that’s honest.

You just want to help people feel their best and it’s all about the client being happy.

I graduated from Fashion Textile Design at Glasgow School of Art a couple of years ago. I always loved design but the styling process and the creativity in that really drew me in, so I steered away from design so much and moved towards the fashion industry.

Kirsty was a retail manger for nine years, was also really drawn to fashion and was always really creative, so she came into styling through that route.

A lot of our clients want us to work with them on what they will wear to summer festivals this year, so it’s been busy in the lead up to this year’s TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow.

People really think about what they wear to festivals now, because it’s a time when they can really show their style and individuality - a music festival is a liberated place to do that and really be yourself.
