Glasgow Lives: Katie, 23, sales assistant from the west end

"I started out learning to dance burlesque at the beginning of the year with Agatha Frisky at Glasgow School of Burlesque.

"I've always liked dancing. I wanted to do ballet when I was a kid, but I ended up doing gymnastics instead.

"I think I wanted to be a burlesque dancer after modelling at a burlesque hair show for my friend when I was 18. That started my fascination with burlesque, when I realised I really liked the look and style. It was great.

"It’s really exciting. I started off doing the burlesque drop-in classes at the school. They’re for anyone to drop-in and learn a routine in 90 minutes. It’s a really good, place to be and dance, with really friendly, empowering people around you. A couple of guys come to the classes too.

"It keeps you really fit - you’re boiling by the end of it, but you feel so great after it. Every week the class is different so you learn a good variety of moves, sometimes, it’s traditional style you learn or it can be more contemporary. I moved onto a course after going to the drop in classes.

"I love the costumes involved in burlesque, making my costumes is one of my favourite parts of it. I buy underwear from regular shops and then just rhinestone it. I love it, it’s so satisfying.

"I finish my course next week and then I’m performing as part of a troupe in Glasgow at the end this month.

"I'd love to be a professional burlesque performer. I think my burlesque name would be Ebony von Rose."
