Glasgow killer who stabbed teenager through the heart dies in prison

A Glasgow man convicted of murdering a teenage boy has died behind bars.

Francis Docherty was sentenced to life in prison in 1987 after stabbing David Ferns through the heart in a row over a dog.

Over 34 years after he was sentenced at Glasgow's High Court, 57-year-old passed away in HMP Perth.

Docherty was once reported missing from jail after failing to return to HMP Edinburgh from a work placement in 2004.

The convicted killer failed to return from a work placement at a charity shop forcing police to issue an appeal to trace him.
