Glasgow Kasabian gig sees two arrested after lit flare thrown into the crowd

Gig-goers were left stunned after a lit flare was thrown into the crowd at the OVO Hydro on Saturday night.

The pyrotechnic was let off during Kasabian's packed show at the venue on Bonfire night. The flare was thrown from the back of the crowd towards the stage covering part of the standing section in thick red smoke.

The band continued to play while the flare was lit and launched over the heads of audience members.

Another device was also let off outside the venue and thrown into a crowd of people. Security staff were forced to intervene and detain the person responsible. Police confirmed they arrested two people in connection with the incident.

An eyewitness told Glasgow Live: "The crowd was rowdy as you would expect in Glasgow on a Saturday night but to see a lit flare in such a tightly packed area was scary.

"You're used to seeing them at outdoor gigs and festivals but indoors at the Hydro is just so dangerous. I'm surprised no one was hurt."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A male was outside the OVO Hydro, and threw a flare into a crowd of people. He was detained by security staff at the scene. Following police enquiries, two people were arrested in connection with this matter."

A spokesperson from the SEC added: "We can confirm that an incident involving a flare took place at the Kasabian gig last night.

"It was dealt with swiftly with the person in question apprehended by security and subsequently taken away by police."
