Glasgow jobs at risk as camera shop Jessops set to plunge into administration

Dozens of could be at risk as the owner of camera chain Jessops prepares to call in administators.

JR Prop Ltd has announced its intention to appoint Resolve as administrators in a move is hugely worrying for the 500 staff at the firm’s 46 remaining stores in the UK.

Jessops - owned by Dragons' Den star Peter Jones - has a store in as well as three other Scottish branches in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Inverness.

Jones bought the chain in 2016 after it fell into administration leading to the closure of all its 187 stores and the loss of almost 1500 jobs.

But despite Jones relaunching the brand the same year as part of a £4m investment, six years on the camera company is still facing an uncertain future.

JR Prop Ltd, which manages its leasehold branches, has filed a notice of intention to appoint Resolve as administrators, a move that could see all the remaining branches close for good.

The camera shop, which first opened its first store in Leicester in 1935, reported a pre-tax loss of £13m for the year to the end of April 2018.
