Glasgow is the most expensive location to insure your home in Scotland

Glasgow is the most expensive place in Scotland to insure your home.

Data released by MoneySupermarket.Com revealed that Scotland's biggest city forces homeowners to hand over the largest amount of cash to safeguard their property.

The average annual cost for Glaswegians is £145.53, meaning residents cough up more than those over in Edinburgh, who dish out the second largest amount, £142.31.

Perth comes third, with people paying £135.52, next it's £134.50 in Falkirk, and the fifth most costly area is Inverness, with an average price of £128.46.

Meanwhile, our pals up north have the better deal, with folk in Aberdeen reporting prices of £127.72, and in Dundee it's £121.91.

The UK average is £138, which is almost than half the price people down in the capital are charged.

Those in north west London pay £251, central and west London costs £249, south west London is £241 and in City of London, it's £237.

Rachel Wait, consumer affairs spokesperson at MoneySuperMarket, said: “Home insurance prices have been on the rise for a couple of years now, with those in London facing the highest premiums, possibly due to higher burglary rates in urban areas. Meanwhile, extreme weather causing flooding and subsidence can impact insurance costs in places like Guernsey and the Shetlands.

“With higher prices and some insurance providers reserving their best offers for new customers, it’s worthwhile shopping around when renewing. This allows you to compare prices and get the best deal possible.”
