Glasgow in top five most searched-for places to live in UK for second year in row

Glasgow has been named in the top five most searched-for places to live in the UK - for the second year in a row.

Property website Rightmove looked at the amount of searches for properties in January and February this year, and they found that Glasgow ranked fifth in the UK behind Devon, Bristol and Cornwall - which overtook London as the most searched-for location.

Scotland's biggest city found itself ranked ahead of Edinburgh, Sheffield, York, Manchester and Dorset in the list, despite a substantial rise in the number of property searches geared towards countryside locations and towns and cities located near to the sea.

Rightmove also compared searches made in January and February this year to those done for the same months last year in an effort to show how trends have changed over a year of coronavirus lockdowns.

They found that, unlike was the case for places such as Manchester, Cambridge and York south of the border, searches for Glasgow in 2021 mirrored the amount made last year by house-hunters.

The news comes after Glasgow Live revealed back in January how the average asking price for a house in Glasgow had risen by over £12,000 in the past year.

In January 2020, homes for sale in Glasgow were priced on average at £153,522, but in January that figure increased to £165,668 - marking a rise of 7.9% in just 12 months compared to a Scottish average of 5.6%.
