Glasgow illustrator creates children's book reassuring kids Santa will still come this year

A Glasgow-based illustrator has created a children's book reassuring kids Santa will still come this year.

The book, which is aimed at kids 2-5, was produced by Gillian McNeill of LAW Illustrates, and features a main character called Oryn and her best friend Piggy who are scared Santa Claus won't come because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Set in Glasgow, Gillian used her knowledge of illustrating the city's landmarks to create something instantly recognisable (and reassuring) for any Scottish child.

With the children's help, the pair "make magic" with the book changing from black and white to colour for Santa to arrive on Christmas day.

Gillian was inspired by her own kids to write the book, she said: "My oldest had asked if Santa could still come due to the 'nasty bug', I had made Skye (4 year old) a book and I wanted to make Oryn (my youngest) one and thought I might get some printed.

"My illustrations are popular in Glasgow with the landmarks so I thought it would be good to combine them.

"My kids like that they recognise the places and the book enables them to get involved to 'create the magic'. I guess it discusses some worries that younger kids will have."

Gillian added that her kids even helped a little with the book's artwork, with oldest child Skye creating the drawings of the coronavirus included in the story.

The books are priced at £9.99,£1 from each sale of which will be donated to Children 1st, Scotland's National Children's Charity, and are available to buy here.

The illustrator said she will be donating a portion of the profits to a local children's charity, she said: "I wanted to be able to give something back from the project so picked a charity that does a lot for kids."
