Glasgow IKEA to stay open when Boxing Day lockdown comes into force

Glasgow's IKEA store will remain open when the city and Renfrewshire are put into level four lockdown on Boxing Day.

In the highest tier of lockdown in Scotland, non-essential shops are not allowed to trade.

However, the Swedish furniture giant has today confirmed its Scottish stores are allowed to remain open.

That's despite a number of their shops being forced to close in England.

A spokesperson for IKEA said: "Since the first lockdown we have put all our efforts into keeping our customers and co-workers safe and enabling our customers to continue to shop with us in new and convenient ways.

"In line with government guidance, our stores in London, Lakeside, Milton Keynes, Reading and Cardiff have now closed to customers but will continue to operate Click & Collect, Home Delivery, and Click & Deliver services to DPD points.

"In Scotland, where homeware is designated as essential retail, and in line with rules regarding travel, we will remain open with extensive safety measures in place for customers and co-workers.

"With life at home more important than ever, we look forward to continuing to meet our customers’ needs whether in-store or through our digital channels."

However, under the lockdown rules, those from outside Renfrewshire mustn't travel to the area except for essential reasons.

Level 4 lockdown comes into place for the majority of local authority areas in Scotland at a minute past midnight on December 26.

Shoppers should bear in mind the travel ban remains in place in all tier three and four areas and they should not cross local authority boundaries to visit shops or malls.
