Glasgow husband and wife open handcrafted artisan ice cream parlour in Partick

A husband and wife team have opened a handcrafted ice cream shop in Glasgow’s West End.

Nowita has replaced the former Parents etc store at 51 Hyndland Street - opening over the weekend. After renovating the premises, the stunning new shop has thrown open their doors much to the delight of locals.

Many across Glasgow sampled the Nowita offerings long before the store opened, having been available at the Zero Waste Market shop as well as various pop up locations across the city. On August 25, the new ice cream parlour posted to their Instagram account to spread the news of their opening.

They said: “We collected our keys on May 18 and opened our doors on August 19, exactly three months of blood sweat and tears (literally), but what a fun time together.

“Excited to open our doors to you all again today. We’re open Thursday and Friday 12pm-6pm, Saturday 11am-4pm and Sunday 12pm-4pm.”

With locally sourced ingredients, as well as eco-friendly packaging and suppliers, the husband and wife team spent two years churning ice cream at home - working around their full time day jobs.

Nowita owners Jamie and Jill have said what visitors can expect: “We create small-batch ice cream in our Glasgow kitchen using premium ingredients and fresh locally sourced fruit and dairy.

“We then wrap it all up in our eco-friendly packaging. Artificial colours and flavouring are never used in our kitchen.

“Producing small batch ice cream means a lot of care goes into every single tub. All those tasty extras (salted caramel, Italian meringue, banana bread, chocolate honeycomb…) are all homemade to ensure the highest quality.”

Nowita’s range of flavours depends on availability, though current choices include lemon and meringue, sea salt and caramel, vegan peanut butter and jam, mascarpone and strawberry, chocolate and honeycomb, vanilla and white chocolate, pistachio or rhubarb and custard.

You can visit Jamie and Jill at 51 Hyndland Street, or find out more about Nowita on their website.
