Glasgow homeless fight over food as volunteers say there's only two days worth of supplies left

Volunteers say they're running out of food and cash to feed some of the most vulnerable in Glasgow.

Glasgow homeless volunteers have only two days worth of food left

Jonathan Lockhart says Kindness Homeless Street Team is at "breaking point" with only two days worth of supplies left.

He says the city's homeless have been cut off from their usual sources of food and money after being put up in temporary accommodation during the coronavirus crisis.

In an emotional Facebook post last night he pleaded for help, insisting his group is struggling to cope with demand.

Jonathan said: "The people in temporary accommodation have no food, we are going out with food every single day now, we used to go out once a fortnight.

"There is literally a queue of about 50 people when we turn up.

"We are not a charity, we are basically just a group of people who are looking to help.

"We're at breaking point now, we have food and money left for maybe another two days maximum, then these people will have nothing, there's no resource there for them at all."

Jonathan says people are in urgent need of basic food, clothes and toiletries.

He added: "There's nobody buying them a sausage roll or a McDonalds during the day, there's nobody giving them a couple of quid, they have no other means of getting food, or clothes or toiletries, or anything at all, apart from the work we're doing.

"No other charities or groups are now going out, we're the only ones."

And he pleaded directly to the people of Glasgow for help.

He went on: "We really need your help, if you can provide any food, toiletries, clothes, things like, Pot Noodles, cup a soups, bread, some of these places have toasters and things like this, any kind of food we can give out on the day.

"Sandwiches are a big thing, chocolate, sweets things like that.

"We need toiletries, toothpaste, sanitary products and we need some money as well, we are now funding it ourselves because the donations we get are just not enough anymore.

"We are relying purely on the goodwill of the people of Glasgow, and it has been fantastic up until now, but it's no longer enough there is no other support for these people."
