The planned redevelopment of Glasgow's High Street station has received a £10m funding boost from Glasgow City Council.
Councillors have agreed to hand over the City Deal cash to Transport Scotland.
The government body will be responsible for the work, which is scheduled to be complete by 2025.
A new build, modern and fully accessible station has been proposed as the current building is in a “poor condition”.
Council leader Susan Aitken said the scheme will “improve connectivity” and make the area more attractive.
Ticket barriers are not currently in place at High Street which is leading to a loss in revenue.
The money for the revamp comes from the Glasgow City Region City Deal, a more than £1billion investment by the Scottish and UK Governments in eight local authorities.
It will be used to meet the cost of professional, technical and construction fees.
Ms Aitken said: “We want to see High Street station transformed into an accessible transport hub that will not only improve connectivity for people living, working and visiting the local community; but enhance the overall attractiveness of the area.
“City Deal investment has already delivered significant positive change in and around this area – including the Barras Public Realm improvements and work to increase the development potential of the former Meat Market site.”
There has been £27m committed to the Collegelands, Calton Barras City Deal project. Money will also be used on a new footbridge over High Street station.
The CCB project is “striving to unlock development potential in the area”, the council say.
The aim is to “create a better-connected place and facilitate the continuation of economic activity from the city centre to the inner East End”.
A full business case for the investment will be submitted to the Glasgow City Region City Deal Chief Executives Group for approval.
