Glasgow health board 'disappointed' as hand sanitiser goes missing from hospitals

A Scots health board says it is "disappointed" by reports that hand sanitiser is going missing from hospitals amid a panic-buying shortage.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGCC) issued a statement on Sunday reminding the public that the gels are there to protect them as cases of Coronavirus continue to rise in the city and across Scotland.

The warning came as shoppers continue to clear out supermarket shelves of anti-bacterial gel up and down the country and online retailers are being accused of cashing in on limited supplies of the product.

NHSGGC said: "We are disappointed at reports of hand sanitiser going missing in hospitals. We would remind people that the most effective way of combating Coronovirus is through regular and thorough hand washing.

"We have good stocks of hand sanitiser throughout NHSGGC and would remind people that hand gel in our wards and public areas is there to protect our staff, visitors and our patients."

The third case of coronavirus in Glasgow was confirmed by the  Scottish Government on Sunday, with the total number of cases in Scotland now at 18.
