Glasgow has the most road accidents per year in Scotland, new study finds

Glasgow has the most road accidents in Scotland, according to a new study.

Car insurance experts have looked at each area in Scotland and found which have the most dangerous roads and most accidents.

The study, by car insurance experts CarInsurance.ae, analysed Department of Transport data from 2013 to 2020 in all local authorities across Scotland, on the rate of reported road accidents per 1,000 people.

Glasgow came in sixth with 1.61 road accidents per 1,000 of the population. Glasgow also has more road accidents per year than anywhere else in Scotland.

The analysis was conducted by CarInsurance.ae, which is dedicated to helping drivers save time and money while picking car insurance in UAE.

With an average of 1,024 road accidents each year, Scotland's biggest city has the most accidents in the country.

Looking towards west of Scotland, Argyll and Bute, is the most dangerous area for drivers in Scotland.

Argyll and Bute has a population of 85,430 and has an average of 170 road accidents per year, giving a score of 1.99 accidents per 1,000 of the population.

In second place is the City of Edinburgh, with 1.78 road accidents per 1,000 of its population.

The capital city of Scotland has an average of 939 road accidents per year and 527,620 residents.

As well as housing the Gateway to the Highlands, Stirling is the third most dangerous area for drivers in Scotland.

The city has a population of 94,080 and 156 road accidents per year. These figures give a score of 1.66 accidents per 1,000 residents.

While the area of Dumfries and Galloway is known for many things, such as the birthplace of the musical genius Calvin Harris, it also has some of the most dangerous roads in Scotland.

There are a reported 750,000 vehicles that drive through the area, largely due to the ferry crossing, which may contribute to the 244 road accidents reported every year. The area has 1.65 road accidents per year, per 1,000 of the population, putting it in fourth place.

The Scottish Borders are the fifth most dangerous area in Scotland for drivers, with 1.61 road accidents per 1,000 of the population.

A spokesperson for CarInsurance.ae commented on the findings of the study: “It is interesting to see the difference in the number of reported road accidents across Great Britain, despite England, Scotland, and Wales all following the same Highway Code.

According to the data, the roads of Scotland are considerably safer than those of London. Road safety is an important issue for everyone, whether you are a driver, passenger, or pedestrian, and this study reveals some fascinating facts on the safest areas for road travel.”
