Glasgow has a new contender for the best viewpoint in the city

There are many places in Glasgow that are worthy contenders for being among the finest viewpoints in the city.

Spots such as the flagpole at Queen's Park, the view from the top of the Lighthouse Tower, the view from the Necropolis overlooking Glasgow Cathedral or the view from the Glasgow Uni flagpole looking over Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum towards the Clyde to name a few.

Now it seems that an altogether new addition to the plethora of stunning Glasgow viewpoints could also be a new one to add to the list, thanks to the incredible panorama it offers to visitors.

The new viewpoint is located within Hamiltonhill Claypits Nature Reserve, Glasgow's smallest and most-urban Local Nature Reserve, which is located on the banks of the Forth & Clyde Canal in the north of the city, just a mile from the city centre.

The community greenspace features a stunning boardwalk as well as a new pedestrian bridge, which connects communities at either side of the canal and provides travel and leisure options for walkers, runners and cyclists by giving them access to the nature reserve.

By following the main path in the Claypits, known locally as ‘The Yellow Brick Road’, visitors will reach the Hamiltonhill viewpoint at the top, offering superb views over the city - especially towards Park Circus and Glasgow Uni and the west end.

And if that's not enough...on a clear day folk will also be able to make out the Isle of Arran some 40 miles away.

Meanwhile, the path to the viewpoint can also be enjoyed year-round thanks to LED lighting in the surface of the path.

BRB, we're away to have a proper gander!
