Glasgow gym appealing for Easter eggs to donate to local foodbank

A Glasgow gym has organised a charity Easter egg appeal for disadvantaged children in the local area.

Members of Village Gym and locals alike have been asked to pop into the gym, based at Village Hotel Club Glasgow in Kinning Park, and donate a boxed Easter egg.

The treats will then be taken to Glasgow SW Foodbank, to make sure that young people in the local community will able to enjoy this Easter.

Jamie Stevens, Senior General Manager, Village Hotel Club Glasgow, said: "We are much more than just a hotel gym.  As a space for the local community to come together, get fit and wind down after a hard work out, we really wanted to spread some cheer this Easter weekend.

"Everyone deserves a little treat once in a while, and we’re delighted to support Glasgow SW Foodbank.  We hope our collection makes a small difference to local, less fortunate children, so next time you’re at the supermarket or at the shops why not spend an extra pound or two on an Easter egg to help us make some-one smile."

Donations are now being taken at the gym with the final closing date for dropping off an egg on Wednesday, April 17.

To say thank you for the donations, Village Gym Glasgow is offering complimentary gym access and fitness classes in exchange for every charitable offering. The sessions will run from Friday April 19 to Monday April 22.

The gym's appeal is part of a new community initiative called The Village Green, which will see the hotel commit more than 30,000 hours per year to volunteering in the local community.

Last year, the hotel raised over £10,000 for Calums Cabin, a charity set up in memory of Calum Speirs who passed away in 2007 as a result of an inoperable brain tumour.
