Glasgow group asks people to 'get involved' in memory of much-loved member Esther Brown

A community group devastated by the death of their much-loved member has urged people to 'get involved' in her memory.

Esther Brown was an 'integral' part of the Woodlands Trust and a founding member of their community garden before she was brutally murdered in June this year.

The 67-year-old was a popular face in the community with her friends the first to report her missing to police.

We reported last week how Jason Graham, 30, pled guilty to raping and murdering the pensioner at her home in Woodlands.

Her friends and colleagues at the Woodlands Trust have now decided to share pictures of happier times with Esther, showing her working in the community garden.

Writing after an 'emotional and challenging week', they are encouraging locals to get involved with the upcoming COP26 programme in her honour.

They said: "We know that she would have been the first volunteer to arrive to help at our COP26 events and the last to leave.

"Let's make it a fortnight of friendship, compassion for the environment, international solidarity, and a growing community of people from both near and far. It's what Esther would have wanted and it's what we want too."

Speaking after the conviction of Graham at the High Court, the charity said: "We remain devastated by the rape and murder of our dear friend Esther who for over a decade was an integral part of everything our charity did. Esther was a founding member of our community garden and her generous spirit was central to making the community garden a welcoming and inclusive place. For many years she also helped to run our community café and served on our board of charity trustees.

"Esther was an exceptionally kind, compassionate, and caring individual who dedicated her life to helping others. Through her voluntary work, she touched the lives and hearts of countless people. We miss her terribly."

The Woodlands Trust is running a COP26 programme during the climate conference which can be accessed here.
