Glasgow graffiti artist creates bespoke Duke of Wellington film mural to celebrate cinema opening

A Glasgow graffiti artist has created a bespoke mural celebrating Scotland on the big screen.

Conzo created the artwork to celebrate the opening of the new Vue Glasgow St Enoch venue, with the final product found on the ground floor of the centre.

The state-of-the-art cinema opened its doors today after being delayed due to the extended Level 3 restrictions.

The eye-catching design depicts the Duke of Wellington statue relaxing in a reclining chair in front of the big screen with a tub of popcorn. The Duke’s horse can be seen in the background alongside the Finnieston Crane.

Some of Scotland’s best loved actors feature on the screen including Sir Sean Connery and Tilda Swinton, and the names of a few Scottish films are also included in the design.

Chris Jackson, general manager at Vue Glasgow St Enoch, said: “We are delighted to be able to open our doors and this brilliant mural is the perfect way to mark our arrival in the city centre with references to iconic actors, films, Glasgow landmarks and the big screen experience.

“Glasgow has a long heritage with film, once being dubbed the cinema city as it had more than 100 cinemas in the 1930s. In more recent times it has become the backdrop for big Hollywood blockbusters. Vue Glasgow St Enoch will build on the great heritage Glasgow has with cinema.

“We are excited to strengthen our presence in Glasgow, bringing the latest concepts in the ultimate big screen experience, with state-of-the-art pin sharp projection through Sony 4K digital projection and amazing surround sound from Dolby 7.1. Three of the screens will also be 3D.”
