Glasgow food spot up for restaurant of the year prize in Asian Curry Awards

A Glasgow restaurant could land a prestigious prize after being nominated in the Asian Curry Awards.

Popular city centre food spot Charcoals is up for the casual dining restaurant of the year prize, the only Glasgow venue to make this year's list.

The Renfield Street restaurant, which has previously scooped titles at the awards, will compete against dozens of other eateries across the country in the category, with the longlist being whittled down by online public vote before visiting judges determine the eventual winners.

Event organisers the Asian Catering Federation (ACF), which represents the nation’s 30,000 restaurant and takeaways, say the awards are the only accolades acknowledging the full panoply of Asian cuisines and that they are widely regarded as the sector’s most prestigious.

The Asian Curry Awards cover all Asian and Oriental cuisines: Bangladeshi, Burmese, Chinese, Filipino, Indian, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian, Middle Eastern, Pakistani, Singaporean, Sri Lankan, Thai, Turkish and Vietnamese.

“The pandemic has been devastating for many hospitality businesses and its worker,” said ACF chairman Yawar Khan,” adding, “These awards will acknowledge the sector’s resilience, innovation in the face of such adversity.”
