Glasgow flat owner charging eye-watering £20,000 for five-night stay during COP26

A Glasgow flat owner is looking to cash in on the Cop26 climate summit by charging an eye-water £20,000 for a five-night stay.

Located in Dennistoun, on Finlay Drive, the flat was advertised on hotel and property reservations website Booking.com.

Glasgow Live reports the owner boasts of ' Glasgow Scenic Views' in the listing.

The flat, which is under a mile from Celtic Park, has two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The guest is also treated to free private parking.

The listing for the property reads: "Offering city views, Glasgow Scenic Views is an accommodation situated in Glasgow, 0.9 miles from Celtic Park and one miles from Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

"With free private parking, the property is 750 yards from Glasgow Necropolis and less than 0.6 miles from Glasgow Cathedral.

"The apartment has two bedrooms, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, an equipped kitchen with a microwave and an oven, a washing machine, and two bathrooms with a shower."

But people may get a shock when they see how much it will set them back for a stay of less than a week.

A five-night stay at the property - from November 1-November 6 during the Cop26 climate summit - costs £20,000 (including taxes and charges) for two people, or £18,000 for one person. The price in non-refundable.

Around 30,000 are expected to descend on Glasgow for the major UN summit, which will test countries' ambition to limit global warming.

US President Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Greta Thunberg are among the names anticipated to visit Scotland’s largest city over the course of the fortnight.

The conference is the most significant since COP21 in Paris in 2015. In Glasgow, world leaders will work to ensure that global warming is kept to 1.5 degrees.
