Glasgow flash floods: Police called after vehicles stuck in Maryhill and Summerston

Police have been called to assist vehicles stuck after flash flooding in Glasgow.

After an extended dry spell in the city amid a week-long heatwave, the rain lashed down earlier this evening.

Areas in the north of Glasgow appear to have been particularly hard hit by flooding tonight, with people taking to Twitter urging drivers to avoid Bisland Drive, Maryhill Road and Leyden Street.

Residents have also reported cars becoming stuck in deep water under the railway bridge at Summerston.

Police confirmed they've been called out to the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson told Glasgow Live: "We are aware of flooding at Maryhill Road and officers are in attendance to assist."

According to the Met Office, we can expect 'unsettled' weather across the weekend.

The forecast for tomorrow reads: “A bright morning with sunny spells and, mainly across the south and a few showers. The showers develop more widely in the afternoon and may be occasionally heavy.

“The weather will be unsettled through the weekend and Monday with showers or longer spells of rain, heavy and perhaps thundery at times. Still feeling warm in any sunshine with mainly light winds.”
