Glasgow fire: Dozens of firefighters tackle blaze at block of flats in city centre

Dozens of firefighters were called to tackle a large blaze, which broke out at a block of flats in Glasgow.

The fire started on the second floor of the building near Lancefield Quay, on the north bank of the Clyde on Monday evening.

At least 12 appliances were called to the scene and and according to Glasgow Live, 75 firefighters were in attendence attending.

One witness told the BBC, flames could be seen "shooting through the roof" of the three-story building.

There are no reported casualties and according to reports on the ground the blaze has been contained.

Glasgow City Council has closed Lancefield Quay between Elliot Street and Hydepark.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 6:43pm on Monday December 9 to reports of a building fire in Glasgow.

“Operations control mobilised 12 fire appliances to Lancefield Quay where officers were met by a fire on the second storey of a three-storey building.

“There are no reports of any casualties."
