Glasgow fire crews race to Byres Road amid reports of blaze in west end

Fire crews have been scrambled to Byres Road in response to reports of a blaze in the west end of Glasgow.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed to Glasgow Live crews were were called to the scene at 7.30 on Saturday evening and three fire engines are currently in attendance.

Images shared on social media show fire engines with blue lights flashing close to University Avenue, while photos published by the Press Association appear to show firefighters opening windows in a first floor flat in a tenement building, close to the junction with Havelock Street.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson confirmed to Glasgow Live: "We are attending a fire on Byres Road.

"We got the call at 19.30 and have three appliances in attendance."

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
