One of the southside's most popular delis has dismayed fans by announcing it is set to close its doors due to spiralling costs.
The entrepreneurial duo behind Silk Road Deli on Minard Road posted on social media to state that they had made the decision to close the curtain on their crowd favourite after "post-pandemic pressures" left them "really vulnerable".
Star of the BBC's Million Pound Menu, chef Tanya Golhil, and her partner, Ross Lunniss, moved to Glasgow from London in the summer of 2021 to set up their dream business and though they've gathered a huge following after becoming known for their ‘flavour bomb’ sandwiches, it seems it's not been enough to save the Silk Road Deli.
Posting on Instagram they wrote: "After lots of rest, recovery and regrouping, we've made the decision to close the curtain on Silk Road Deli.

"We've had days when we've been absolutely heaving. Days where you couldn't move - queues out the door. We've loved those days. But it'll be no surprise to you that post-pandemic pressures have made us really vulnerable. With spiralling costs, our niche offering and no alcohol margins to benefit from, continuing is untenable."
Adding that they don't yet have an official date for closing as of yet, they stated that they wanted to be as "transparent" as possible with their customers.
"We'll keep you in the know every step of the way," the post continued. "Before we tap out, there's a whole new sandwich menu and weekend brunch à la SRD, coming to you this week, from Thursday. So very Silk Road Deli. Anyone who knows us, knows we're no quitters - we fight till the very end."
Writing that they have no regrets, they added: "[We've] Spent the most mental, physical and emotional labour on this place, you wouldn't believe. We're not a coupla nepo babies or middle class industry kids. We've sweated in these walls every single day of service. Both of us. 17h+ days. Could not be prouder of us. Ain't seen grafters like it.
"We learned that hard work doesn't always pay off. It's a fallacy of the privileged. But we're not ones to sit on our a$$e$. Best believe we still knocking down walls in 2023.
"Thank you to everyone who has seen us, understood us and let us exist outside the box and on the margins. Thank you to every one of you who held space for something as different as us. Come see us Thursday onwards, we're still here."
One sad fan responded: "Thank u for bringing pure joy to all our bellies and incorporating community through food so well. You both have really made your mark with resilience and kindness. you’ll be missed so dearly."
While another added: "This is much worse than Noma closing."
