Glasgow factory bosses give workers £3,500 each to help pay fuel bills

Workers at a Glasgow factory will receive an extra £3,500 in their wages to help them pay fuel bills.

Every member of the 42-strong workforce at printing firm McAllister Litho Glasgow (MLG) will be given an extra £500 for seven months after their bosses stepped in to take the pressure off during the cost of living crisis.

Director Brian McAllister announced the news to staff last week, insisting it is the right thing to do when times are tough.

He explained: “It will be some relief to a lot of people who are struggling in the current climate and with costs increasing week to week; it offers some kind of stability.

"Every member of staff will receive £3,500 (£500 a month). At that point we will review it and see what if any assistance the government is offering and possibly continue with more help if needed."

The commercial printer has been trading since 2013 and is run by Mr McAllister and managing director Janette McAllister. They weathered the covid storm using furlough and made changes to their operation and shifts to return to full production in October 2020.

Mr McAllister says the extra money is also a thank you to staff for their support after they worked tirelessly when the volume of work increased this summer.

He added: "We had an unusually busy summer period, and most people in the factory have done extra shifts. So this is also a bit of a thank you for their support.”
