Glasgow driving test centre 'hardest' place to pass in Scotland

A driving test centre in Glasgow has been named the 'hardest' place to pass in Scotland.

Research by Collingwood Insurance Services, combined with the latest data from the DVLA, found that Anniesland test centre in the west of the city was found to have the lowest pass rate in percentage terms.

Just 42 per cent of wannabe drivers passed their tests at the Glasgow test centre - compared to 83.3 per cent in the Aberdeenshire burgh of Ballater, the Daily Record reports.

Other test centres in the Greater Glasgow area made the list, with the Shieldhall centre coming in third with a pass rate of 45 per cent. East Kilbride was seventh with 48 per cent and the Baillieston centre was in ninth place with a pass rate of 49 per cent.

Liz Laidler, head of Learner Driver Products at Collingwood Insurance Services UK Ltd, said: "Booking in a driving test is a daunting time for anyone with ambitions to get behind the wheel, and this data is an interesting snapshot of the differences between urban and rural driving.

"Nevertheless, accidents can happen at any time and any place on the roads, and while drivers can minimise their chances of an accident by driving carefully and considerately, having a suitable insurance product is essential to ensure that you are protected against anything that happens on the road."Good luck to anyone looking to pass their test in the near future and remember that practice makes perfect."

A Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) spokesperson said: "DVSA’s priority is to help everyone through a lifetime of safe driving."The driver testing and training regime tests candidates’ ability to drive safely and responsibly as well as making sure they know the theory behind safe driving.

"All candidates are assessed to the same standard and the result of their test is entirely dependent on their performance on the day."

The research found it could be easier to get your licence in Scotland, where the current overall pass rate is 63 per cent.
