Glasgow drivers warned as multi-car crash blocks M8 eastbound

A serious crash on the M8 between Glasgow and Edinburgh has blocked the motorway in one direction.

Traffic Scotland report that the crash has involved a number of vehicles.

As a result of the incident, the M8 is currently blocked eastbound between Junction 4A (Whitburn) and Junction 3A (Bathgate).

Traffic is reported to be building on approach.

A tweet from Traffic Scotland alerting road users to the incident at 1pm this afternoon read: " The M8 blocked E/B at J3A Bathgate due to a Multi Vehicle RTC. Traffic building on the approach."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We were made aware of a crash involving a single vehicle on the M8 eastbound between junctions 3A and 4 in West Lothian around 12.45pm on Sunday, 3 October.

"Police and ambulance both attended and recovery has been arranged for the vehicle."

Meanwhile traffic update site INRIX is reporting heavy traffic on the M8 Westbound between J14 B763 (Fruitmarket / Dennistoun) and J18 A82 Great Western Road (Charing Cross) this afternoon due to roadworks in the area.

UPDATE - All lanes now running on the M8 E/B at J3A Bathgate following the earlier accident.
