Glasgow drivers warned after accident leaves M8 partially blocked to traffic

Drivers are being warned that the M8 is partially blocked due to an accident.

People using the motorway are being advised to expect some queuing traffic as a result of the smash, which took place shortly after 11am on the westbound section near to J6A (Chapelhall roundabout).

Traffic Information site INRIX advise that the motorway has been 'partially blocked', although traffic seems to be coping well.

Emergency services are currently at the scene.

They issued a bulletin which read: "M8 Glasgow And Edinburgh Road Eastbound partially blocked due to accident near J6A A73 Bellside Road (Newhouse / Airdrie). Traffic is coping well. Traffic currently flowing on all lanes."

Meanwhile Traffic Scotland took to Twitter to alert road users, tweeting: "RTC M8/A8 at J6A Chapelhall roundabout. Emergency services are at the scene, please take care on approach and expect some queuing traffic."

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
