Glasgow driver 'unaware of lockdown restrictions' caught on 260-mile trip to girlfriend's parents house in England

A loved-up Scot has been caught flouting lockdown restrictions by driving more than 260 miles home from his girlfriend’s parents house.

The Audi driver was stopped by police officers on the A66 at Appleby, North Cumbria, on Saturday while travelling back to Glasgow.

Eden Police said the driver claimed to be “unaware” of the Covid-19 travel restrictions that are still in place - despite being furloughed from his job.

The driver was returning from an 11 day stay at the home belonging to his girlfriend’s parents in Hull, Yorkshire.

The force tweeted: “Male stopped by the Proactive Team on #A66 at Appleby on his way home to Glasgow after an 11 day stay at his girlfriend’s parents house in Hull.

“Apparently unaware of #COVID19 measures yet he’s furloughed.”

They added: “Reported for breaching travel restrictions.”

Several Scots drivers have been fined and reported after being caught travelling crazy distances during lockdown.

Earlier this month, four Glasgow residents were fined after being caught returning from a family gathering in London by the Cumbria Roads Policing Unit.

Another was hit with a double fine after attempting to travel from Edinburgh to Wigan to buy a puppy.

When the driver refused to turn around after being issued their first ticket, police officers pulled them over a second time and issued another fixed penalty notice.
