Glasgow driver slashed across face by raging knifeman in terrifying attack

A man who slashed a driver in the face in a brutal attack in broad daylight was jailed.

Graeme Wilson pursued James Grieve's vehicle in Glasgow before causing him to stop and then struck him with a knife, inflicting a 15cm wound.

Wilson, 39, was in an Audi Q7 on Hawthorn Street when he saw the victim travelling in the opposite direction in a Volkswagen Golf.

Wilson carried out a U-turn and chased after the other driver before overtaking Mr Grieve's car, forcing it to stop on Springburn Road.

He then approached Mr Grieve in his vehicle and brought out a knife and lunged through the driver's window to attack his victim.

He struck Mr Grieve on the head with the weapon. The victim managed to reverse his car at speed to escape. He was later taken to hospital with a wound across the right side of his face from eye to ear measuring about 15 centimetres.

The wound was surgically cleaned and stitched and nerve damage was repaired, but the victim was left scarred.

Wilson, a prisoner, earlier admitted assaulting Mr Grieve to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement on April 23 this year.

Sentencing him to for 32 months a judge told him at the High Court in Edinburgh that it was "a thoroughly nasty attack".

Lord Harrower said Wilson would have faced a four year prison sentence but for his early plea of guilty to the offence.

Defence counsel Jennifer Bain said that Wilson was in a heightened emotional state at the time and had acted "in the heat of rage".

She said Wilson had made attempts to positively change his life and had started a firm which he ran with a sister.
