Glasgow drag star Lawrence Chaney slays RuPaul's Drag Race UK design challenge

It was third time lucky for Glasgow drag star Lawrence Chaney who took home her first win on RuPaul's Drag Race UK.

Lawrence proved herself to be one to watch after winning the coveted sowing challenge which saw her go up against other Scottish contestant Ellie Diamond.

Both queens blew the judges away with their garment-making skills after transforming a box of gold fabric into two show-stopping looks.

Lawrence created a figure-hugging gold gown with a mesh puffed-sleeve, embellished top (with plunging neck, of course) and a sequin fishtailed skirt. Paired with a white beehive wig, gold fascinator and set of pearls, the queen was a vision of glamour.

Lawrence won the third challenge of the season (BBC iPlayer)

The 22-year-old declared herself as "the original golden girl", adding: "I may look like a 40-year-old mother but this 40-year-old mother has this win in the bag."

And sure enough, Lawrence bagged the season's third RuPeter badge beating out resident fashion designer A'Whora.

In true Glaswegian style, her response was filled with expletives. The queen cried "f*** me sideways" followed by the obligatory "buzzin' oot ma t**s".

Lawrence has been a stand out star of the series so far with his confessionals touching on everything from body confidence to the treatment of drag acts in Scotland.

Ellie Diamond, from Dundee, and Lawrence were seen telling Ru about the Scottish scene during the maxi challenge.

Lawrence said: "It's a whole different ball game because in Scotland there is no money. A normal rate of payment is like £15 for a guest spot."

Ellie explained that she took time off of drag to work at a drive-thru to pay for items to benefit her performing career.

Taking to Twitter after the show Lawrence (@shadylawrence) added: "PAY YOUR DRAG QUEENS WHO TOOK 3 HOURS TO GET READY TO DO A SHOW WHERE LETS BE HONEST YOU HAVE THEM DO MORE THAN AN ENTERTAINER IS MEANT TO DO!"

We can't wait to see what our two Scottish legends get up to on next weeks show.

You can catch up on last night's episode of RuPaul's Drag Race UK on the iPlayer with a new episode every Thursday at 7pm.
