Glasgow dogs at polling stations go viral in European elections

For those feeling a little scunnered with elections or suffering from voter fatigue, you'll be pleased to know it isn't just politicians who are the supposed stars of the show today.

That's because polling station pups are currently making a big statement across the UK, and in Glasgow in particular.

Since voting began at 7am this morning, #dogsatpollingstations has been trending in our city, with more people Tweeting about the pretty pooches they've encountered than Election Day itself.

All manners of breeds, ages, shapes and sizes of our favourite pets have already been spotted in the city centre, west end, east end, north and south of the city as voters take to the polls to choose the country's future MEPs.

For those wondering what the rules for taking dogs into polling stations, guidelines from the Electoral Commission state that your pups ARE allowed in polling stations in an 'accompanying role'. However, our furry canine friends must be kept on a lead at all times.

And we're looking at you to get in on the act Glasgow, by commenting on our story with your best snaps of our city's most wonderful dogs.

Happy voting!
