Glasgow designer swaps frocks for scrubs to help support frontline workers in need

Barbra Kolasinski is best known for high fashion clothing and accessories that look fresh off the catwalk.

But since lockdown the Glasgow designer has switched from sewing stunning gowns to making scrubs for frontline care workers as they battle the coronavirus pandemic.

Barbra is one of the 300 machinists working as part of the Love of Scrubs team, a nation-wide campaign which relies on savvy sewers to create vital PPE for NHS workers, care staff and council workers.

So far they have raised over £40,000 to buy the fabric, elastic and thread needed to make uniforms for care staff and have received over 9000 requests for scrubs from hospitals and others in the healthcare sectors.

As a Glasgow coordinator, Barbra is responsible for making sure the scrubs and washbags are cut, stitched and delivered to their designated drop-off point.

The super stylish 30-year-old, who usually spent her days in her Finnieston studio planning photoshoots and glamorous clothing collections,  is now volunteering full time on the project.

She said: "There are so many incredible volunteers within this organisation, makers, pattern cutters, machinists, drivers who all are working together to supply our front line and key workers all over Glasgow.

"The donations have been incredible, keep them coming. Thank you to all you NHS and key workers."
