Glasgow cycling charity support community during crisis using pedal power

Glasgow cycling charity Bike for Good is to provide free bike loans for key workers among a raft of new services to support the community during lockdown.

It's also offering free virtual route planning and a free e-cargo bike delivery service of care packages for vulnerable service users during the Covid-19 crisis.

The charity is loaning their fleet of bikes to key workers, such as Francis from the Richmond Fellowship, so that she can safely get to work without relying on public transport.

Also on offer are tailored virtual route calls on Zoom with a Cycle Trainer, to ensure that those new to cycle-commuting know how to get to work safely.

Service users of community groups such as Flourish House, Positive Action in Housing, and Govanhill Housing Association have benefitted from the free delivery service of essentials via e-cargo bike by Bike for Good.

Head of Community Outreach Victoria Leiper said: “We had to figure out a way to support our community during these unprecedented and scary times. Our usual programme of Community Outreach activities has been postponed until the crisis is over, but we have a team of passionate and kind staff who want to lend a hand wherever they can. So far, our offering has been very well received, and we are continuing to adapt it as the situation continues.”
