Glasgow craft distillery launches new raspberry spiced rum 'Charlie's Chopper'

A new raspberry-spiced rum has been launched by a Glasgow craft distillery.

Charlie's Chopper, a limited edition cranachan-flavoured drink, is the latest rum produced by the Jacobite Spirits Company who featured previously on Glasgow Live .

The 40% ABV spirit has been hand-crafted right here in our city, and has hints of vanilla, oats as well raspberry.

The 45 Scottish Spiced Rum was launched earlier this year from the distillery which is based in the Oatlands area of the city.

It's recommended the drink is paired with elderflower tonic, club soda or in a homemade cocktail.

The team behind the rum say: "Jacobite Spirits’ master distiller Tony Stapleton has worked with great care on balancing the vibrance of fresh raspberries with subtle hints of vanilla and the richness of toasted oats.

"Cranachan was traditionally made to mark the joy of the harvest - which fitted our plan to create a drink that inspired positive feelings and celebration.

"At 40% ABV, Charlie’s Chopper Raspberry Spiced Rum is warming but it works well with a refreshing mixer. It offers something different to the new spiced rum drinker or the connoisseur, and presents an alternative option to our first product, The 45 Scottish Spiced Rum, a more robust spiced rum with a passionate presence.

"Both our rums are themed with a twist of irreverence. We believe our brands, as well as the drinks themselves, ought to have a personality that stands out.

"We think Charlie’s Chopper is a fun name and something that people will have a laugh about and remember. But we’re sure they’ll remember the rum even more."

Head distiller Tony Stapleton commented: “We wanted to take on the challenge of bringing another flavour of Scotland into our spiced rum. Cranachan quickly became our inspiration, with its delicious, sweet taste and tradition of celebration.

“Craft spirits producers are very skilled and earnest and we strive to reach that standard, but we didn’t want that to come at the expense of making a drink which is primarily about fun.

“And that’s why the flavour profile of Charlie’s Chopper perfectly matches the feel of the brand - light, zesty and bold, wrapped up in a slightly silly package with a nod to its homegrown heritage.”
