Glasgow 'covidiots' flout lockdown rules to travel to beach in North Berwick

Residents from Glasgow were caught by police flouting strict covid lockdown travel restrictions after driving over 70 miles to visit a popular East Lothian beach.

The covid rule-breakers were issued with fixed penalty notices and told to return home after being stopped by officers in North Berwick last month, Edinburgh Live reports.

Under the current restrictions, travel to another local authority for non-essential reasons is prohibited by law.

News of the lockdown breach was contained within a monthly police report shared with North Berwick Community Council.

The community council told Edinburgh Live that the monthly police report revealed that: "In the early hours of Friday 5th February, police stopped a vehicle in North Berwick where the occupants resided in the Glasgow area.

"They were issued with Covid Breach FPT and told to return home."

It comes after Glasgow Live reported last month how 60 people were discovered breaking lockdown rules in just three hours after police were repeatedly called to beauty spot Gleniffer Braes. Officers found dozens of cars after multiple reports of illegal gatherings.
