A thug attacked his pet dog in a city centre street faces being banned from owning animals.
Mark Main punched and kicked the brown Staffordshire bull terrier in Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street on June 23 this year.
The 43-year-old also struck the dog’s head off the ground during the attack.
Main pled guilty today at Glasgow Sheriff Court to causing his dog unnecessary suffering.
Main sobbed in the dock as prosecutor Jessica McGowan requested that he should be banned from owning animals for a set period of time and the dog rehoused.
She said: “The charges include kicking, punching and hitting the dog’s head off the ground.”
Stephen Grady, defending, told the court a vet who visited the dog in kennels believed he was “well looked after.”
The lawyer added: “He is extremely emotional about this and will express that in his background reports.”
Sentence was deferred until next month by Sheriff Gerard Bonnar.
Further information surrounding the circumstances as well as the decision on Miss McGowan’s requests will be heard on that date.
Main, of Carntyne, had his bail continued meantime.
