Work to re-establish community council across Glasgow is being made by the council as part of a 'mission' to give more influence over decisions to residents.
A number of community councils have been struggling to “get up and running” in the wake of the Covid pandemic.
Councillors asked about what was being done to change this during a meeting of the performance and scrutiny committee on Wednesday.

It came as an update was brought before councillors regarding the performance of the council’s strategic plan, which aims to reduce poverty and inequality within local communities, increase opportunities for and prosperity for all citizens, fight the climate emergency and transition to net zero and enable staff to deliver essential and sustainable ways.
The plan has been structured into “grand challenges” and supporting missions, and mission two asks the council to run an open, well governed council in partnership with all communities.
As part of this the local authority is looking to develop a model that enables citizens to influence decisions that affect local communities.
A pilot is expected to take place in four of Glasgow’s wards relating to the neighbourhood infrastructure fund programme decisions but concerns were raised about the fact that some community councils are not operating.
Councillor Maureen Burke said: “My concern is that there are quite a few community councils across the city that are not really up and running and I just fear that some of the communities out there are being missed out.
“I think maybe we should be looking at that membership and getting the community councils set up. Is there any way that you can look at that.
“I am not sure how many wards don’t have a community council but I know in my ward there have been a few that fell so is there any work being done on that.”
A council officer confirmed that there was ongoing work to resolve this and a detailed proposal would be brought back to a further committee meeting.
They said: “I am informed that things are improving but a lot of community councils have struggled to get back up and running post covid.
“In ward ten we have six active community council and we want to look at how they can collaborate a bit more.
“I can certainly provide a more detailed report.”
