Glasgow comedian Gary Faulds shares brilliant Barras Market story that reminds us how unique it is

You could say it's sods law that we report on an appeal on behalf of Barras 100 Fest for memories and stories about the famous market...and then a fresh gem appears out of thin air to remind us all just how amazing and wonderfully unique The Barras is.

That wee gem has arrived thanks to Glasgow comedian Gary Faulds, who shared a cracking story about his mum and grandad - who used to have a stall at the Barras - to this followers on Facebook yesterday.

While cycling along Stevenson Street in the Barras, she spotted a painting that looked like her dad at Bertie Holmes Antiques & Vintage and after spotting his signature on it, realised it was a self portrait he had done and promptly purchased it from them.

In sharing the amazing story, Gary said if his grandad was alive now he'd be "overwhelmed with joy that one of his own paintings was sold at the Market where he once had a stall.

He wrote: "My wee mum was cycling through Barras Market and noticed a painting that looked like my grandad, she kept on cycling and decided to go back as she couldn’t stop thinking about it. Turns out it was my grandad as the signature on it was F Feeney.

"He was an artist and drew a self portrait. Gutted he’s not alive to hear the story. But how incredible and touching that you get to buy one of your dads paintings, and even more touching that he was also a trader in the Barras and would have been overwhelmed with joy that one of his own paintings where sold there.

"My mum has put it straight up in the house and she’s not stopped looking at it. The Barras is full of treasures, my family can testify that. Get yourself down at the weekend and have a look for yourself."

It goes without saying that something like this could only happen in The Barras!
