Glasgow cocktail bar The Spiritualist closed after staff member tests positive for coronavirus

Popular Glasgow cocktail bar The Spiritualist has closed after a member of staff tested positive for coronavirus.

The bar, based on Miller Street in the Merchant City, announced the temporary closure this evening via social media after the staff member tested positive for Covid-19 earlier today.

The bar said that the staff member in question has not been on the premises since September 5, and that he did not display symptoms last weekend while working.

Bosses are working with the NHS Track & Trace system to trace anyone who may be a close contact, with staff now isolating at home until the incubation period has passed.

As a precautionary measure, The Spiritualist have temporarily closed to allow for a specialist deep cleaning and fogging to take place.

The Facebook post reads: "We have been notified that one of our staff at The Spiritualist has today tested positive for Covid-19. He has not been on the premises since 5th September. Our staff have their temperature recorded daily and he did not display any symptoms last weekend.

"We have implemented all Government health and hygiene guidelines and are working with the relevant public health experts and with the trace and protect programme to allow them to trace anyone who may be a close contact. The individual in question is feeling physically fine and our staff are now isolating at home until the incubation period has passed and we wish them all the best during what must be a rather worrying time for all concerned.

As a precautionary decision, we are temporarily closed. This will allow for a specialist deep cleaning and fogging to take place. We would like to take this opportunity to emphasise that the health of our staff and customers is our number one priority and when the doors reopen, we will continue to take all necessary measures to continue to operate a safe and responsible business."
