Glasgow City will be tough, so take your chances, says Accies boss Gary Doctor

Gary Doctor insists Hamilton Accies Women must show more of an attacking threat when they face SWPL1 defending champions Glasgow City for the second time in a month this weekend.

The Accies boss, whose side lost 1-0 away to Aberdeen at the weekend, welcome City to New Douglas Park on Sunday knowing the face a huge test after a 6-0 reverse in the cup in August.

Doctor hopes his side will give a better account of themselves this time against the professional outfit to set them up for a Lanarkshire derby with Motherwell the following week, which will provide a more realistic chance to pick up points.

He said: “We bounced back from our last defeat to Glasgow City to beat Hearts in the league and, ultimately, we’ve got to learn from that first game because we let ourselves down.

“We’ve got to provide more of an attacking threat this time, so that’s certainly what we will try to do to give us confidence going into subsequent matches that are more winnable, so to speak. We’ve got Motherwell coming up the following week and that’s a game both teams will think they can win.

“We need to come away from the City game with a platform to build from going into the rest of the season.”

Louise Brown’s first-half strike gave Aberdeen victory over Accies in their latest outing and Doctor felt his side were hard done by after Tara McGonigle was denied a second half penalty.

He added: “A draw would’ve been the least we deserved. In the second half we played extremely well and were on top.

“Looking back at the video we should have had a penalty, but it wasn’t to be.”
