Glasgow city has second-lowest Covid infection rate in Scotland as final days of COP26 get underway

Glasgow currently has one of the lowest covid infections in the country as the second week of the COP26 conference gets underway.

Data collected on the week leading up to November 5 shows that cases stabilized and even fallen in recent weeks.

In Glasgow City, the daily positivity rate is currently 220.6 per 100,000 of the population.

The current infection rate is the second-lowest of all the local authorities, behind the Shetland Islands.

The number of cases over the last seven days is currently 1,402.

Outside of Glasgow City, Renfrewshire currently has a rate of 262 which is lower than East Renfrewshire at 285.2. North Lanarkshire is experiencing a surge in cases with 379.9 per 100k of the population testing positive.

On Monday, a further 312 cases were recorded in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde health board - bringing the seven day total to 3,137. Under that measurement, 264.7 of the population have tested positive.

Deputy First Minister John Swinney will give an update to the Scottish Parliament later today on the current coronavirus situation.

The Deputy First Minister and Covid Recovery Minister will address Holyrood at around 2.20pm, where he is likely to speak about the number of cases that have surged across the country.

It comes as fears grow that the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow could lead to a spike in covid cases in Glasgow and beyond.

The conference is due to wrap up on November 11 after welcoming tens of thousands of people from across the world.
