Glasgow City Council have suspended parking charges amid the coronavirus crisis.
Councillor Alan Casey confirmed the move, saying on-street parking bays will help support key workers who need their cars to travel during the outbreak.
Announcing the temporary scrapping of the fees on Twitter last night, he said: "Glasgow City Council Parking Charges Suspended.
"The current government advice is to avoid using public transport and there's a reduced service from Monday 23 March, we have suspended charging for on-street parking bays to help support key workers using their cars."
However, Mr Casey, the SNP councillor for Dennistoun, confirmed the prevention of illegal parking on yellow lines and in disabled spaces will still be enforced.
He added: "Enforcement will be prioritised to yellow lines and disabled persons' parking bays until further notice."
Meanwhile, the councillor has called for private car parks around Scottish hospitals to suspend charges as Scotland battles against the pandemic.
Mr Casey further commented: "Most hospitals in Scotland already have free parking and earlier this week along with other colleagues I called for the 3 private pfi car parks to suspend parking charges also."
Glasgow Live have contacted Glasgow City Council for further comment.
